Surprise Medical Billing Act
In this seminar, we provide an overview of surprise medical billing requirements for healthcare providers (such as physicians, billing practitioners, and air ambulance services) and facilities (including hospitals, freestanding emergency departments, and urgent care centers) governed by the No Surprises Act (part of CAA-21). The provided information reflects interim final regulations (IFRs) issued in July and October 2021, outlining the Act's implementation, including its prohibitions on surprise medical bills and balance billing. Additional obligations for providers and facilities, like the notice and consent exception process, provider disclosures, good faith estimates, provider directory information, the Independent Dispute Resolution (IDR) process, and enforcement with potential penalties, are also highlighted.
